On some Wi-Fi 6 routers, when used with IoT devices that only support 2.4GHz, it has been reported that the connection succeeds but no video is displayed.
If you are using a Wi-Fi 6 router and the GRAN EYE camera status light is green or purple, but no video appears in the app, please try the steps on this page in order.
Example symptoms
・Using a Wi-Fi 6 router
・Camera is detected / connected from the app
・Camera video does not display in the app / is unstable
Possible Causes
- 2.4GHz and 5GHz combined under the same SSID (Smart Connect / Band Steering) with automatic switching
- Compatibility with Wi-Fi 6–specific or recommended settings (802.11ax mode, OFDMA, TWT, PMF (Protected Management Frames), etc.)
- Encryption mode set to WPA3 only, or instability with WPA2/WPA3 mixed mode
Troubleshooting Steps (try in order)
- Separate SSIDs for 2.4GHz and 5GHz (stop using a single SSID). Turn off “Smart Connect” or “Band Steering,” and connect the camera to the 2.4GHz-only SSID.
- Disable Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) mode and run the 2.4GHz band in 802.11b/g/n (and optionally ac/n compatibility if needed).
- Set wireless encryption to WPA2-PSK (AES) only (WPA3 only is not supported. If mixed WPA2/WPA3 is unstable, switch to WPA2 only).
- Set the 2.4GHz channel width to 20MHz and fix the channel to 1, 6, or 11 (instead of auto).
- If possible, temporarily disable OFDMA / TWT / PMF (Protected Management Frames) and test the behavior.
- If using Mesh Wi-Fi / extenders, prepare a dedicated 2.4GHz SSID and temporarily turn off roaming assistance or automatic band switching.
- Reconfirm existing requirements: disable AP isolation / client isolation, and do not use Guest SSIDs (the app and camera must communicate on the same network).
Tip: After changing each setting, restart the app and check if the video displays. In some cases, improvement may require a combination of changes.
If the issue persists
- Update your router’s firmware to the latest version and reapply the above settings.
- If the issue is not resolved, prepare a separate SSID (or access point) dedicated to 2.4GHz and connect the camera to it.
